Mountain in freedom

The essentials

A different way to experience the mountains

“In a world that never stops accumulating, we choose to clear the air.
To clear the air of noise, of haste, of pointless rules, of crowds,
of habits that are not our own.
To return to what remains.
Fresh air.
True silence.
Time that does not pass.
Food that springs from the earth.
Relationships that matter.
We believe in a mountain that is not consumed, but experienced.
In tourism that does not intrude, but integrates, by establishing a give-and-take relationship with local communities.
In a way of life that does not exploit, but gives back.
Rebelle is for those who feel that something is wrong.
For those seeking a different path.
For those who do not need everything, but only what truly matters.
Far from the chaos.
It’s not for everyone.
And that’s just fine.
Because what really matters cannot be explained”.

1

The mountains are a place that nourishes both body and soul. To preserve their unique character, riches and mysteries, they must differ from the city in geographical, architectural and socio-cultural terms.

2

We believe that the mountains, their animals and their people should live with dignity, helping one another to do so. We are committed to thinking like the mountains, striving to understand the past and reflecting deeply on the right actions to take for the future, for haste is a poor counsellor in the highlands.

3

We prioritise all good practices that make prudent use of the natural resources provided by the delicate mountain environment. Such practices are usually inspired by the long-standing inhabitants of the mountains, who have acquired them through centuries of knowledge and expertise meticulously passed down from generation to generation.

4

We are committed to engaging with the community, both through dialogue with the people who make it up and through concrete actions such as…

• Taking part in community work to maintain streams, footpaths, village roads, etc.
• Helping to organise events linked to local traditions
• Getting involved in local cultural or other associations
• Promoting the local area, at least through personal recommendations (word of mouth), by highlighting sustainable tourism and locally available products

5

We believe it is important to think carefully and take action wherever possible to boost and support the local economy through all kinds of economic activities that respect both people and the environment. For example…

Making any unused plots of land available to farmers free of charge (“the land belongs to those who work it!”)
• Foster the development of small-scale economies through new ideas and collaboration with local stakeholders (use of medicinal plants, gathering wild herbs and fruits for food, use of firewood or timber, meat and cheese production, development of renewable energy, promotion of nature-based personal care activities, etc.)
• If possible, it would be useful to consider using one’s second home as a holiday let for other guests during periods when it is unused, thereby creating warm beds that benefit the tourism economy
• Consider making donations to new economic activities emerging in the area that respect their local environment
• Consider ‘adopting’ animals from livestock farmers or vegetable gardens from farmers who may be facing financial difficulties due to the small size of their farms – which in the mountains are often small and therefore disadvantaged by the market economy, yet produce products of excellent quality

Our “Chalet Montagnard” will therefore be more than just a simple holiday home in the mountains; it will be a vibrant place capable of breathing new life into the surrounding area.

7

We are committed to sourcing products from the Aosta Valley for our purchases of raw materials (food, building materials and other items).

We would be happy to help set up a network of owners of other “Chalet Montagnard” properties, with the aim of sharing experiences, passions and ideas to promote “authentic” mountain destinations.
